His mother was a descendant of the clan McGregor who were at one time among the bravest of the brave Scottish clans. His father lived to be almost a centenarian. About the year 1847 he took passage at Liverpool, England, bound for the new world securing employment after his arrival here at Elgin, Ill. as foreman of a track laying gang on the Chicago & Galena railroad. After leaving there he worked on different railroad finally securing contracts of railroad work of which he had charge. He then moved to Iowa and began farming. In the fall of 1856 he moved to the territory of NE locating in Cass Co. and after a residence there of many year moved to Nuckolls Co where he has since resided. He was married May 16, 1856 to Elizabeth Urwin. Fourteen children blessed this union. They are William, Elizabeth, James, Adam, Ellen, Margaret, George, Elsie, Andrew, Adella, Nora and 3 deceased were Joseph, Samuel, and Mary. The deceased was a man standing high in the estimation of the community. His reputation for honesty & generosity came of that true Scotch parentage, the god qualities of which he nobly demonstrated. All of his surviving children with one exception were in attendance at the burial services. Funeral services were Sunday last at M.E. Church, conducted by Rev. Stanley after which the remains were laid away in the Lawrence Cemetery. (Info taken from Jack and Mazell McLean's records from typewritten sheet entitled "Palmer Genealogy")
