Kelly, one of the oldest citizens of this community, passed to eternity Tuesday evening, March 7, in St. Joseph's Hospital at New Hampton after an illness due to infirmities of age. The deceased was born at St. Rose, November 19, 1857, the son of Peter and Ann Kelly, early Fayette County pioneers. He received his education in the rural Schools of Fayette, Winneshiek and Chickasaw counties. He was married November 19, 1901 to Delia Heatherton by Rev. Martin Hogan at St. Rose. After their marriage they went farming, and during their active lives occupied various farms in Fayette and Chickasaw counties. He is survived by his son, Pfc. James F. Kelly of Camp Haan, Riverside, Calif., and six daughters, Mrs. Leo Feeney (Kate) of Lawler, Mrs. Ted Meissen (Josephine) of Oelwein, Mrs. Erwin Burk (Alice) Lawler, Mrs. Terrance Whalen (Marie) and Mrs. Eddie McFarland (Grace) both of New Hampton and Mrs. Belvin Brigham (Rose) of San Bernardino, California. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Sarah Hoey, and one brother, John Kelly, both of Waucoma. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and one daughter, (Anna) Mrs. Roy Voght. Mr. Kelly was a faithful member of the Catholic Church. He lived a good life and conscientiously performed his duties to his God and to his family, and made every day one of added spiritual richness. When death came he was well prepared to meet his Maker. He was kind and true to his family and enjoyed the esteem and goodwill of a great number of relatives and friends. The large number who paid their respects and attended the funeral bore evidence of the esteem in which he was held. Funeral services were held at Mt. Carmel Church, March 11. Rev. Fr. William Michael celebrated the requiem mass and delivered a very fitting sermon. Burial was in Mt. Carmel Cemetery beside his wife. Pall bearers were Pat Griffin, Herman Schwickerath, Jerome Kelly, Frank Lynch, Joe Meissen and Joe Murray. The relatives from away who attended the funeral were Pfc. James F. Kelly of Camp Haan, Riverside, California, Mr. and Mrs. Belvin Brigham of San Bernardino, California, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Meissen and daughter, Madonna of Oelwein and Walter P.
