Description	:	The George and Isabella Newman family moved from Wellington, Ontario to Alberta in 1900. "James the youngest in the Newman family was born in 1884 in Palmerston, Ontario, Canada. The family first came to Leduc, Alberta where they stayed for a few months. James was a soccer player and he played with the Leduc team. The family finally settled and homesteaded in the Czar area of Alberta. In 1906, James Newman filed on his own homestead, N.E. Sec. 30, Range 12, twsp 44, W4th, four miles northwest of Sedgewick, Canada. He spent his first winter there in a shack on his homestead. The winter of 1906-1907 was one of the coldest ever recorded. He later bought the quarter south adjoining his homestead. This quarter, he bought from “Bud“ Loftus (a gun toting Texan) but it had been homesteaded by an Albert Badger. Owned the eastern ½ of Section 30, Range 12, Township 44, W4. Here he built his home and spent most of his life except for four years from 1937 to 1940 when the family moved to Vancouver, BC for a time. For the next few years James worked at Lougheed and District. James related a story that some neighbors used to refer to him as the Dutchman on “thirty” because they thought he was of German descent, (actually, his father was English and his mother was Scottish). A man named Pitcaithly homesteaded N.W. 30, he went on a trip and never returned. Comfort Reinhardt homesteaded S.W. 30. James enjoyed farming and was well known in the area until his untimely passing on June 28, 1951." Always said he wanted to die with his boots on and as it happened, he got his final wish. James came in from working the garden on the morning of June 28, 1951, and died of a heart attack sitting in his front living room, while still wearing his boots. James Newman married Susanna Hildegard Krinke on 22 Nov. 1916 at Camrose, Alberta, Canada. They raised a family of four children, three sons and a daughter; Kenneth George, Leslie James, Jean Agnes and Allan Jack. James' son Leslie continued farming their homestead until it was sold in 1956. Leslie and his mother Susan then moved to Vancouver, BC where she later passed away in 1974.
