Description	:	James Meteer died Monday evening, April 9, 1906 at his home north of Lynch, of kidney trouble, age 76 years, 3 months and 15 days. Uncle Jimmy, as he was familiarly known, had been sick for some two or three weeks, during which time he suffered intensely and gradually sank lower and lower, his rugged constitution giving up the battle of life very reluctantly, until Monday evening, death finally relieved his pains which were intense. Read More	James Meteer died Monday evening, April 9, 1906 at his home north of Lynch, of kidney trouble, age 76 years, 3 months and 15 days. Uncle Jimmy, as he was familiarly known, had been sick for some two or three weeks, during which time he suffered intensely and gradually sank lower and lower, his rugged constitution giving up the battle of life very reluctantly, until Monday evening, death finally relieved his pains which were intense. Mr. Metteer was an early settler of Knox county and has a large number of old friends in this vicinity, who have known and respected him for years. He was laid to rest, Wednesday in Highland cemetery, Rev. Hornady preaching the funeral sermon in the Highland M.E. church. James Metteer was born Christmas Day 1829 in Delewar county, N.Y. At an early age, he moved to Bradford county Pennsylvania. Here he grew to manhood, just attaining those years, when he moved west, locating near Blue Grass, Iowa. In 1863, Feb. 8, he married Anna M. Pierce, to which union seven children were born, five of whom survive him, two daughters, Mrs. Mary Montrose of Millersbury, Iowa and Mrs. Wm. Biles of Lynch; also three sons, John Metteer of Lynch, C.W. Metteer of Creighton and Frank of Center. Excepting his daughter in Iowa, all his children and his wife were with him during his last hours. In 1883 he located in Knox county and lived there until 1901, when he came to this county. Mr. Metteer was a fine old gentleman, having a host of warm friends, earned by his sterling honest and pleasant and accommodating disposition. He was a member of the Masonic order and had taken considerable interest in the plans for organizing the order in Lynch. Though rich in years and the activities of this life, he will be greatly missed and mourned by the aged wife and family, who have the sympathy of all in their sorrow.--Lynch Journal ...The Creighton News 20 April 1906
