Oct 1, 1925 - Carroll Times - James Boyce, oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. John Boyce, of this city, who died at the St. Anthony hostal Thursday morning, September 4, at 12:30 o'clock, was buried from the St. Joseph Catholic church Satrday morning at 9 o'clock. The lad had almost reached hiss 13th birthday, being born in this city September 27, 1912. He was one of the brightest pupils of the St. Joseph school and was held in high esteem by his teachers and schoolates. James was in his usual health until a few days before his death. As late as Thursday, September 17, he attended school all day, and took his music lesson on Thursday morning. In the evening he was down town but complained of a slight headache when he returned home. From the slight indisposition of Thursday evening his condition became alarming by Saturday and it was necessary for him to undergo an operation for a ruptured appendix at the hospital Saturday morning, September 19, at 3 o'clock. From then on until his death it was known his condition was critical. He was a patient sufferer, spendig his last hours in prayer with no fear of meeting his Maker. He was mass server of the St. Joseph church and was buried in his server's clothes. He was a member of the 7th grade of the school beonging to the school orchestra. The high esteem in which this little boy was held by his school-mates and friends was evidenced when he received 30 spiritual bouquets. Besides his grief-stricken parents, he leaves a brother, Lawrence, and a sister, Ethel. Out-of-town relatives who attended the funeral were Miss Mary Joyce, Omaha; Mrs. Tom Boyce, Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Eckert and son, Omaha; Mr. and Mrs Frank Heese and daughter, Earling; Mr. and Mrs. George Wieland and daughter, Exira; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Thelen and son, Exira.
