Staley, a well known resident of this community died Wednesday afternoon, of last week, after a ten days illness. He was born in Shelby County, Ohio, June 4, 1946, and in 1854 came with his parents to Iowa, where, with the exception of a few years spent in Nebraska, he spent the most of his life. Staley Dead Passes to his long rest after a ten days illness James K. Staley, a well known resident of this community died Wednesday afternoon, of last week, after a ten days illness. He was born in Shelby County, Ohio, June 4, 1946, and in 1854 came with his parents to Iowa, where, with the exception of a few years spent in Nebraska, he spent the most of his life. He enlisted in the service of his country, December 9, 1863, Company L. Fourth Iowa Calvary and was discharged August 8, 1865. He was married August 24, 1867, to Miss Susan Lacey, who with five children survives him. He united with the First Baptist Church, of Hampton, about eight years ago, during the pastorate of Rev. J. E. Wilkins, and remained a consistent member until his death. The funeral service was held at the Baptist Church Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. E. E. Evans, the G.A.R. Post having charge of the services at the grave. Mr. Staley was a man of generous impulses, always ready to help anyone whom he might befriend, working out in his life, as best he could, the salvation he had accepted.
