Description	:	From The Belle Fourche Bee, front page & page 4, Wednesday 7 June 1939: James L McCumsey, 80, pioneer Alzada stockman, died 2 June 1939 at the home of his son John in Ekalaka MT after three months of declining health. James L McCumsey was born 30 Sept 1858 at Goshen IN. He was the oldest of five sons born to Richard and Rebecca McCumsey. From IN the family migrated to the state of NE, locating near DeWitt. James L McCumsey was born 30 Sept 1858 at Goshen IN. He was the oldest of five sons born to Richard and Rebecca McCumsey. From IN the family migrated to the state of NE, locating near DeWitt. Here the father died or disappeared and was never heard of afterward. the widow and mother then moved with her 5 sons to Kiowa NE, where James and his brothers grew to young manhood. Near the year 1881, the mother, along with her sons, settled neasr Belle Fourche SD on a homestead. James McCumsey was married 26 Dec 1886 to Minnie Ruby Terrill at Davenport NE. To this union were born 7 children. The wife preceded him death 26 Sept 1912. In the year 1901 he located with his family on a homestead at Alzada where the family resided until the death of his wife in 1912. James McCumsey was a stockman all through his life, and shared their lot as it had been in SD and MT during the last 3 quarters of a century. He leaves to mourn his passing, one brother, John S McCumsey of Crane OR, 3 children: Mrs Fred O Clark of Rapid City SD, Mrs J R Richardson of Kadoka SD and John E McCumsey of Ekalaka MT; 16 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, and a host of old friends and neighbors.
