Harper, 73, well known Story county farmer who for many years was associated with raising purebred Duroc swine. He succumbed to an illness Sunday in his home.He as engaged in farming and the purebred livestock business for many years until he was compelled to give up the work in 1928. Afterwards he resided in Arizona and California for a short period. Then he returned to Ames where he had spent the last 10 years. In 1910 he sold a farm at New Sharon, Ia., purchasing one near Newton. He resided there until 1913 when he purchased a farm near here. After becoming interested in raising purebred Duroc swing with his son, Harlan, they developed one of the leading swineherds in the middlewest. He was a charter member of the Story County Farm Bureau. He was united in marriage to Anna Rosaltha Smith at New Sharon, in 1895.Besides the widow and one son, Harlan, eight grandchildren survive. A half brother and half sister also survive. Grandchildren are Dixon, Harlan, jr., Dorothy Ann, Roger, Joseph, Lowell, Mary Lou and Karel Jeanette. Rev. A.H. Barker will conduct the services. Burial will be in the Ames Cemetery.
