Mr. Floyd died Monday, March 17, 2003 in Kingston Nursing Center following an illness. Born in Aynor, he was a son of the late Ranson Bradley and Addie Jane Roberts Floyd. He was a member of Aynor United Methodist Church and was closely affiliated with Pisgah United Methodist Church. Mr. Floyd graduated from Wofford College in 1929 and was a former board member of Horry-Georgetown Technical College. He helped develop the Township of Aynor as well as Dog Bluff Community. Mr. Floyd was instrumental in getting Aynor's new post office, Aynor's Manufacturing Plant, the first electric co-op in the Aynor area and the Anderson Brothers Bank. He built the first football field for Aynor High School and was a longtime Booster Club member for Aynor athletics. He was inducted into the Aynor Athletics Hall of Fame for his support. He was a member of the Aynor Lions Club and a charter member of Graddy Masonic Lodge #257 in Aynor and received a certificate for being a member for 70 years. He was a Shriner, a 32nd degree Mason and a former mailcarrier and postmaster in Aynor for a number of years. He was an extraordinary historian, storyteller and a patriarch for the Floyd clan from Dog Bluff and Aynor. He was renowned for being a pilot and owned an airplane, although neither were licensed. He was a farmer, an avid hunter and a fisherman. He was predeceased by his wife, of 54 years, Juanita Black Floyd. Surviving are son, Dr. James L. Floyd Jr. of Myrtle Beach; daughter, Jo Floyd McDonald of Solomon, Md.; grandchildren, Austin Floyd, Lee Floyd, Christen McDonald and Chad McDonald; several nieces and nephews.
