Thomas J. Fannon, pastor, was celebrant of the Mass ater which interment took place in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers were Michael Morgan, Gregory Jenkins, Gerald Ferguson and Gary Lannon, of the Columbian Squires; William Kenny and Julian Davis, of Piedmont Council 685, Knights of Columbus, and Raymond Beckner and Louis Nasser, of Chief Justice Taney Assembly, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. Members of the Taney Assemply formed a guard of honor at the church. According to reports filed by Chief of Police Charles Spiker, Mr. Bissett and his grandson, Todd Smith, two years old, were entering Bissett's parked car which was headed west on West Fairview Street when the car began drifting backward. Investigations have failed to reveal exact details of the accident, but police believe as the car was drifting down the steep incline, Mr. Bissett tossed his grandson from the car which continued drifting for 47 feet before dropping over a ten foot, five inch wall. Investigators believe Mrs. Bissett was dragged with the car which landed on its rear after going over the wall and then settling on four wheels at the approach of the Piedmont-Luke bridge. The two injured persons were treated at the scene by Dr. Paul R. Wilson and then rushed to Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser, where they were admitted about 7:30 p.m. In the meantime, members of the Tri-Towns Fire company began washing down the street where gasoline had spewed from the dislodged tank on the 1963 model car. At the hospital, the child was treated for several abrasions to the head and his condition this morning was listed as satisfactory. Mr. Bissett died at 8:05 p.m. as a result of a chrushed chest and internal injuries. He also sustained multiple contusions and abrasions. Born 17 July 1910, Mr. Bissett was a son of Mrs. Ora Bissett of Piedmont, and the late William Bissett. He was a graduate of Thomas High School and at the time of his death was manager of the meat department of the A & P Supermarket in Westernport. He was a native of Coketon, W.Va. Mr. Bissett was a former Piedmont City Councilman and held membership in St. Peter's Catholic Church. Active in the work of the Knights of Columbus, he was a member of Piedmont Council 685 and that group's delegate to the Community Council. In addition he was a counsellor of the Columbian Squires and a member of Chief Taney Assembly, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. In addition to his mother, Mr. Bissett is survived by his wife, Mrs. Grace (Davis) Bissett; a son, James Bissett, at home; two daughters, Mrs. Phillip Smith of Piedmont and Miss Helen Bissett, at home. Also surviving are two sisters, Miss Gladys Bissett of Piedmont, and Mrs. Vivian Stalnaker of Parsons; two brothers, Joseph Bissett of Beckley, W.Va., and Francis Bissett of Akron, Ohio."
