He was born December 11, 1926 near Drakesville to Joseph and Nellie Bridgeman Hopkins. He married Edith Elaine Kopp on July 23, 1949. She preceded him in death on August 16, 1989. He was born December 11, 1926 near Drakesville to Joseph and Nellie Bridgeman Hopkins. He married Edith Elaine Kopp on July 23, 1949. She preceded him in death on August 16, 1989. Hoppy was a World War II veteran, serving with the U.S. Army. He worked 30 years at John Deere Ottumwa Works, retiring in 1988. He was a member of East End Pentecostal Church of God, and worked on Indian missions building churches. He was also a member of the John Deere Bowling League. Surviving are two daughters, Vickie Hopkins of Indianola and Tanya Hopkins of Stickley, OK; a son, Tim (Joni) Hopkins of Ottumwa; 6 grandchildren, 11 great- grandchildren; four brothers, Raymond Hopkins, Harold “Fuzz” Hopkins and Joe Hopkins all of Albia, Bill Hopkins of Mapleton; three sisters, Diana Miller, Nancy Fabert and Charlene Murphy all of Albia. He was preceded in death by two sons, Fred “Pete” Hopkins and Rick Hopkins; a daughter, Phyllis Anspaugh; three brothers, Kenneth, Ronald and Jim Hopkins; two sisters, Mary Ellen Wright and Joy Bridgeman. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor David Parramore officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Sunday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Memorials may be made to the family.
