Description	:	James died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at the Whitman Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was 85. He was born Nov. 11, 1915, at Vesper, Kan., to John Cleveland and Bessie Beezley McClanathan. He grew up in Kansas. At the age of 16, he rode the rails west by himself, eventually leading him to Washington. His family soon followed. He married Elsie Uerling April 28, 1939, in Yakima. Read More	James died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at the Whitman Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was 85. He was born Nov. 11, 1915, at Vesper, Kan., to John Cleveland and Bessie Beezley McClanathan. He grew up in Kansas. At the age of 16, he rode the rails west by himself, eventually leading him to Washington. His family soon followed. He married Elsie Uerling April 28, 1939, in Yakima. They made their home in the Yakima Valley where James farmed around the area of Cowiche. He also worked on cattle ranches and in the orchards. Later he drove school bus and worked as a janitor. They lived near Cowiche for 55 years before moving to Colfax to be closer to family in 1995. He loved to fish and hunt and was an avid gardener. In his younger years, he rode at rodeos. He also like to talk and visit with family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Elsie; three daughters, Elizabeth, Patricia and Jerry, and Virginia and Gary; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Doris, and Alice.
