The Courier Asheboro, North Carolina 04 Feb 1904, Thu • Page 3 James M. Foushee Dead James M Foushee, a prominent citizen of Staley, died January 28th, of consumption. His remains were carried to Parks XRoads for interment on Saturday, the 30th. As the deceased was a man well known in the county a brief sketch of his life may be of interest to some of your readers. Mr. Foushee was a son of the late Col W. F. Foushee and was born June 21st, 1855. He was raised on the farm and as a young man be was ambitious to acquire an education. In later life he was often heard to deplore the fact that he was denied the educational opportunities which the young men of today enjoy. However by dint of perseverance and self denial he did secure a good education in the public schools and in the academies at Pleasant Lodge and Mt Vernon Springs. For several years he taught in the public schools of the county. The writer was present at the closing exercises of his school at the old Kildee school house and the impressions made on his mind that day have never been effaced. In 1883 Mr. Foushee was married to Maggie, daughter of Gaston Parks, one of the best families in the State. They lived happily together for 20 years. His wife and three children survive him, while two little ones had gone on before. For the past 12 years he lived at Staley where he was identified with every movement looking to the betterment of the community, and his death will prove a great loss to the community. For a number of years he had been a loyal member of the Christian Church. Just before he expired he called his wife to him and said: "I am ready to go; the way is so bright before me; I can see things which I never saw before." As the end drew nigh he spoke a few words of counsel to his children and quietly passed away. A good man has gone to his reward. May our last be like his, not a gasp, not a sigh, just a gentle falling on sleep. CMS Staley, Feb 1, 1904.
