Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, at the Chapel of Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. The Rev. Ron Harris will officiate. Interment will be in Aurora Cemetery. James M. Hansen, the son of Cecil Dean and Mary Katherine (Grosvernor) Hansen, was born in Aurora on July 9, 1951. Jim grew up in Aurora. His father passed away at the age of 46 and he helped his mother by holding down two paper routes, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Jim graduated from Aurora High School in 1970 and attended Central Community College in Hastings for an accounting degree. Jim worked in Lincoln in the warehouse of Guaranteed Foods. He moved to Central City in 1975 to be closer to family. Jim then went to work at Nogg Paper Company in Grand Island from 1980 until 1988 when the company closed its doors. From 1988 until May of 1994 Jim worked for Ore-Ida in Grand Island. Jim had moved to Central City in 1975, so when Jim’s brother passed away, also at the age of 46, he decided he needed to be nearby for his mother. At this point he began mowing lawns and moving snow in the Central City area. At one time he had 37 yards he tended to. Jim loved baseball; his favorite team was the Yankees. Another passion of his was bowling; his grandfather got him hooked on the sport as a child. Jim worked for Bernie Kramer’s bowling alley in Emerald for two years when he lived in Lincoln. When he moved to Central City, Jim worked at the bowling center with Larry Kramer for three years. Most of his bowling was done in Aurora with his 30-plus year bowling partner, Jim VanWormer. He loved riding his bike around town visiting with the townspeople. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, David.
