Overman Succumbs at 86 Retired Keosauqua Merchant Is Survived by Son, Daughter; Funeral Services Held Monday James M. Overman, Keosauqua merchant for more than half a century, died at the age of 86 years. He was born in western Illinois and came to Keosauqua in 1878 to open a bakery and restaurant, and continued in business in Keosauqua until a few years ago. He was married to Miss Lydia Strickling of Keosauqua in 1880. Two children were born of the union, Roy S Overman and Bess E. Overman. His wife died in January, 1935, and his grandson, James Roberts Overman, on February 1, 1938. In addition to his children he is survived by his granddaughter, Mrs. Roland C. Hill, and great granddaughter, Carol Jean Hill, of York, Neb. And a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Overman, one of Keosauqua’s oldest citizens, took an active interest in community affairs. He was the first president of the men’s business and served on the city council many years. Funeral services were held at the Burnett funeral home in Keosauqua at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon. The final rites were conducted by the Rev. J.C. Behrens, pastor of the Methodist church in Milton. Mrs. J. E. Price and Mrs. James A. Craig sang at the services, with Miss Velma Essex as pianist. Burial was at Purdom cemetery, The bearers were Dr. Richard Perkins, Robert R. McBeth, Carl Fleming, Dr. F.M. McClurg, Bates Manning, and Dr James A. Craig.
