Read More	A frightful and tragic accident occurred in the North Western railway yards in this city early Monday afternoon when James Richardson, for the past fifteen years a resident of this city, lost his life beneath the wheels of a freight train. No one witnessed the accident. The lifeless body was first sighted by members of the crew of Passenger Train No. 23 which arrived from the east at 1:10 p.m. They saw the body lying on one of the yard tracks between the stock yards and the round house as their train was coming through the yards. They reported the matter and immediate investigation was started. A freight train had been made up on this track and had pulled out for the west at 12:35 p.m. and no other train had passed for the track after that hour. Some of the wheels of the freight train had passed over Mr. Richardson's neck, almost completely severing the head from the body. The head was on the outside of the north rail while the body was between the rails. As the accident was reconstructed, Mr. Richardson had apparently been at the round house and was on his way to his home, a few doors north of the city light plant. He was cutting across the railway yards and when he came to the train of cars evidently decided to crawl under the train rather than wait for the train to move or go around. Evidently the train started suddenly while he was under a car and he was knocked down with his head just over the north rail as the wheels of a car struck him. Coroner A.C. Jongewaard of Sioux Center was notified immediately and he arrived about 3 o'clock in the afternoon. After making an investigation of the circumstances Coroner Jongewaard recognized that the death of Mr. Richardson was purely accidental, announced that no inquest would be necessary, and directed that the body be removed. Funeral services will be held at the Barnard Funeral Home at 2:30 this afternoon with Rev. Clyde Clark of the Baptist church in charge. Burial will be made in Grace Hill cemetery. James M. Richardson was born in Nashville, Tenn., June 19, 1863, and so was past 73 years of age at the time of his death. He grew up to young manhood at Nashville and in Octover, 1896, he was united in marriage with Betty Carter. Following their marriage they continued to make their home in Tennessee for several years after which they moved to Buffalo, Okla. Later they moved to Mountain Grove, Mo., and in October, 1918, they came to Iowa, locating on a farm near Ireton. Three years later, in 1921, the family moved to Hawarden and he had made his home here continuously since that time. For a number of years he was employed on the section by the North Western Railway company but for the past five or six years he has been engaged at common labor. Besides his wife he is survived by eleven children: Millard Richardson, Mrs. Harry Jager, Mrs. E.W. Mullarkey, Mrs. John Marshall and Ralph and Myrtle Richardson of Hawarden; Mrs. Verne Savage and Mrs. John Hulleman of Barronnette, Wis.; Mrs. Wm. Howen of Grand Forks, N.D.; and Walter and Utah Richardson of Buffalo, Okla. Sincere sympathy is extended to members of the family in their sudden bereavement.
