Description	:	James McHenry "Mac" Gillet, a retired Calvert School teacher and former owner and director of a summer camp, died of cardiac arrest Monday at his Cross Keys home. He was 78 and had formerly resided in Ruxton for many years. Born in Baltimore and raised in Green Spring Valley, he was a 1940 Calvert graduate and a 1946 graduate of St. Andrew's School in Middletown, Del. Born in Baltimore and raised in Green Spring Valley, he was a 1940 Calvert graduate and a 1946 graduate of St. Andrew's School in Middletown, Del. After serving two years in the Army he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at the Johns Hopkins University. He joined the Calvert faculty in 1952 and taught until 1984. "He combined the fundamentals of the Calvert way with a great sense of humor and charm," said Andrew D. Martire, a former student of Mr. Gillet and now Calvert's head master. For 25 years, Mr. Gillet owned Moose Cove Lodge in Bridgton, Maine, a summer camp for about 60 boys. He sold the camp in the late 1980s but retained part of the land and a home there. "Everyone who worked for him came back year after year -- and so did the campers," said John S. Gibbs, former assistant director of the camp and a former Calvert faculty member. Friends said Mr. Gillet was known for his quick wit, as well as a passion for classical music. "Kids enjoyed being in his class. They had fun," said James O. Coady, a Calvert teacher. "But he also managed a classroom well." In retirement, he divided his time among his residences in Baltimore, Maine and Captiva, Fla.* To the best of my knowledge, George and Mac Gillet were full brothers.
