Description	:	James M. Barlow died at home in Plainfield, Tuesday evening, his health having failed for many years. The funeral will be Friday morning at 10 o'clock. James Milton Barlow, son of Harvey and Sarah Smith Barlow, was born in Washington Township, September 13, 1845. After completing the course in the schools of that day, he attended Wabash College for a time. James Milton Barlow, son of Harvey and Sarah Smith Barlow, was born in Washington Township, September 13, 1845. After completing the course in the schools of that day, he attended Wabash College for a time. In the spring of 1864, he volunteered n the 132nd Indiana Regiment and served until honorable discharged. Following the war, he was a traveling salesman for two years and then taught school in the county for 22 years. He also engaged in various mercantile lines, and with ceaseless industry and frugality he amassed means with which he purchased land until he became one of the large land owners of the county. He and Sarah Hornaday were married May 17, 1871, and she, with five children, survives. Mr. Barlow was a forceful character and took an active interest in public affairs. He naturally drifted into politics and represented the county in the legislature for two terms. He was then elected for one term as senator from the district composed of the counties of Hendricks and Boone. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, K. of P., I.O.O.F., Red Men and G.A.R. He assisted in organizing the Uniformed Rank of the K. of P. order. He was particularly interested in local history and for many years was president of the old settlers' association holding picnics in Cartersburg. For years he was a justice of the peace and he served the people well. Hundreds of his pupils scattered far and near, with thousands of citizens of the county who recognized his sterling worth, will be saddened to learn of his passing. [August 13, 1922 Republican]
