Read More	OBITUARY September 21, 1983 - The Greer Citizen JAMES DOWIS SERVICE HELD HERE SUNDAY James Milton "Milt" Dowis, 75, husband of Elizabeth Lister Dowis and resident of 31 Lawrence Street, Lyman, died Friday. Mr. Dowis was a son of the late James Marion and Bessie Mayfield Dowis. A native of Anderson County, he was a retired employee of Lyman Printing and Finishing Co. and had retired from the S. C. National Guard after 22 years. Mr. Dowis was a member of the Lyman First Baptist Church. Surviving also are three sons, Jerry Dowis of Lyman, the Rev. James R. Dowis and Roy H. Dowis, both of Duncan; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Gregory of Duncan and Mrs. Jewel Mullinax of Lyman; a brother, Roy H. Dowis of Roswell, Ga.; two sisters, Mrs. Kathleen Buckheister of Greenville and Mrs. Ruth Finley of Anaheim, Calif.; ten grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Wood Mortuary with the Rev. Wayne Levan and Jim Nelson officiating. Interment was in Wood Memorial Park. Grandsons served as active pallbearers. Honorary escort was composed of members of the Men's Bible Class of Lyman First Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to the building fund of Lyman First Baptist Church.
