Read More	SLAYBAUGH, JAMES M.-- James Milton Slaybaugh was born in Jefferson county, Nebraska, July 16, 1884. In 1891 the family removed to a farm near Martland. About seven years ago they removed to Geneva and since then this has been the family home. The deceased was married June 4, 1911, to Miss Bertha Trask of Geneva, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. I. N. Trask. For the past four years Mr. Slaybaugh was a trusted employee of the Nebraska Telephone Co. and had risen rapidly in his chosen line of work. For some time he had been foreman of a crew of from sixteen to twenty men and he had charge of the rebuilding of different exchanges for the company. About September 1, having completed rebuilding of the West Point exchange, Mr. and Mrs. Slaybaugh removed to Wayne and began the rebuilding of the Wayne exchange. He was taken ill of typhoid fever and death followed at 4:30 a. m. Thursday, November 16, 1911, his age being 26 years, 4 months and 5 days. Mrs. Slaybaugh's parents and Mr. Slaybaugh's parents were called to Wayne some days before the end and assisted in caring for both Mr. Slaybaugh and his wife, the latter having suffered a nervous breakdown. Mr. Slaybaugh is survived by his wife and parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. S. Slaybaugh, an the following three brothers and three sisters: John of Oklahoma, Henry of Iowa, Bert of Wayne, Mrs. Carl Hurless of Iowa, Mrs. Lonnie Bennett of Strang and Mrs. Guy Piper of Geneva. All were present at the funeral. The funeral party reached Geneva last Friday evening, the body being taken to the Trask home. Funeral arrangements were made by the Geneva Odd Fellow lodge, of which Mr. Slaybaugh was a member. The funeral took place from the Trask residence at 2:30 p. m. Sunday and a very large number of old friends testified to their respect for their young friend and regret at his death by their presence. The Nebraska Signal November 24th, 1911 page 1.
