Mr. Coker was born September 23, 1915 in Turbeville, SC, the son of William Nelson Coker and Sarah Margaret Poston Coker. Mr. Coker, known as Jimmy to friends throughout the area, was retired from South Carolina Electric and Gas Company, and a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Dorchester Lodge Masonic Order No. 369, and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He was a member of the SCE&G Good Neighbor Club and worked diligently to assemble and deliver Christmas baskets to the needy. He lived in North Charleston and had been a long time resident of West Ashley and a member of Ashley River Baptist Church, where he was a devoted worker who built sets for musical productions and plays. For many years he volunteered to play Santa Claus for numerous area churches. He was the father who would always drive the crowd to the skating rink, the uncle who offered to help with getting a job, the friend who invited you to dinner, throughout his life. An avid traveler, Mr. Coker had been all over the country as well as trips with Carpenters for Christ to restore churches. He was a man who always gave more than was asked, Jimmy Coker befriended many who were struggling. He believed in bestowing kindness and extending a helping hand. He is survived by his wife Doris of N.Charleston; four daughters Vermell Coker Goblet of Mt. Pleasant, Patricia Doscher Everett of West Ashley, Barbara Doscher Elsey of West Ashley and Diane Mims Hommel of North Charleston; He was Grandpop, Gramps, and Papa to his grandchildren, George Goblet of Mt. Pleasant, Chris Rikard Eckles of Irmo, Chad Everett of Charlotte, Morgan Gabler of Atlanta and Michael Peavy of Hanahan and great grandchildren Amanda Peavy, Mia Goblet, Sean Peavy, Sarah Goblet, Nathan Daniels, and Matthew Daniels. He is preceded in death by a daughter, JoAnn Coker Gabler. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to A Caring Heart Hospice, 6296 Rivers Ave., #307, North Charleston, SC. 29419 or St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 1150 East Montague Ave., N.
