He next married Julia Ann Griffith, as her first husband, on 08 NOV 1877 in her father's house, Shelby County, Missouri by L. Rush, Minister of the Gospel. James Masco Garnett, son of Larkin C. and Juliann Garnett, was born Jan. 27th, 1845, and departed this life at 11:30 a.m., October 19th, 1896, aged 51 years, 9 months, 12 days. In early manhood he made a profession of religion and joined the Christian church, but drited away in the course of time and lost his church connection. Two years ago he again made a profession of religion and gave evidence of one of the brightest conversions and united with the M. E. church South at Hebron church, under the ministry of Rev. S. E. Botsford, and since that time he lived an humble life, an earnest worker in the church, so far as he was able. In his last days he gave evidence to all "that is was well with his soul." and almost his last intelligent words were that "God would take him home." He was married Aug. 21st, 1864, to Martha J. Case; to then were born five children and four boys, all of whom have attained the age of manhood and womanhood. One daughter joined her mother in that eternal world; this wife died April 24th, 1875. He was again united in marriage to Julia S. Griffith, Nov. 8th, 1877. To them was born five children—one of whom died in infancy. All of his living children were present except one son, who lives in Oklahoma, he not being aware of his father's death. He leaves one grandson, two brothers and one sister to mourn his loss. He was a sufferer, being afflicted with cancer, but he bore his suffering with patience. The present writer preached his funeral to a large congregation of sorrowing relatives and friends.
