Sunday morning while he and other members of his household were engaged in morning prayers he suffered a stroke and never regained consciousness. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at the Ross Funeral Home, with Rev. J.W. LaGrone,: pastor of the Methodist church, in charge. Interment was made in the family lot in a grave beside his wife in Grace Hill cemetery. Dr., James Murray was born in Wheaton, IL, Dec. 10, 1859, and died at Hawarden on Aug. 22,1927, having attained the age of 67 years, 8 months and 12 days. He came to this immediate vicinity more than forty years ago and has made his home here ever since. In 1898 he was united in marriage with Mrs. Alice Bancroft in Hawarden. To this union one son, George Murray, was born. Mrs. Murray passed away at her home here on Jan. 14th of this year. He felt her death very keenly and has failed quite steadily ever since. Dr. Murray followed his profession as a veterinary surgeon in this community for many years and was highly regarded for his skill. He had many friends among both the long time citizens of the surrounding country and the younger generation as well was recognized by all as a man with a big heart. Ill health past few year prevented him from regularly following his profession! During the year 1903 he united with the Methodist Episcopal church and when the Men's Bible class was reorganized in the fall of 1925 he joined the class and so long as his health permitted took great pride in his regular attendance. He has been a great sufferer for a long while and since his wife died last January he has only been waiting for the summons to follow after her, at times seeming impatient that the hour for his departure did not arrive. He leaves to mourn his going his son, George Murray of Kenosha, Wis., and nine step-children, Mrs. Clyde Cartwright of Sioux City; Mrs. Effie Cook of Wichita Falls, Texas; Mrs. Evelyn Stout of Hawarden; Mrs. Lottie Storts of Redwood Falls, Minn.; Ernest Bancroft of Hawarden; Charles Bancroft of Los Angeles, Calif.; Will Bancroft of Tracy, Minn.; Mrs. Alma Mullen of Hawarden; and Mrs. Myrtle West of Hope, Iowa.
