A native .of Cherokes County, he was the husband of Anne Humphries Broome and Son of the late Forest B. Broome and the late late Clara Gaffney broome Willis. He was a sixth generation decendent of Michael Gaffney. He worked for J.C. Ware Sheet Metal before retiring as a rural mail carrier. He served in the European Theatre during World War II, received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star, and was inducted into the Cherokee County Hall of Bravery on May 30 1884. he was a member of East Gaffney Baptist Church where he served as deacon and Sunday School Superintendent and was a member of the Pastor Search Committee, Allison Sunday School class, Senior Adults and Baptist Brotherhood. He was member of the Library Board when present Library was built and was a past member of the Cherokee County Development board. Also surviving are one son, James N. Broome, Jr. of Gaffney, One daughter , Diane Broome Masters of Gaffney; Three step Brothers, Robert Wllis and Horace Willis, both of Panama City, Fla., and Ernie Willis of Enterprise, Ala., one step sister, Mavis W. Green of Eufaula, Ala., and three grand children, Amy Broome, Chip Masters abd Whitt Masters. Services will be held today at 4 p.m. at East Gaffney Baptist Church with the Rev.Ron Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Fredrick Memorial Garden. Body will be placed in the church at 3:30 p.m. Pallbearers will be Warren Bonner, Alfred Martin, Joe Whiten, Dennis Vess, Mack Stuard, Havey Campbell, Stan Christoph and John Stuard. Honarary pallbearers will be members of the Allison Sunday School class and Deacons with whom he served. The family is at the home. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Annio Armstrong Easter Offering or Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, East gaffney baptist Church, 2308 Cherokee Ave. Shuford Hatcher is in charge.
