Neil was born May 31, 1935 to James Joseph and Myrtle (Burton) Bratton in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Neil was the younger of two siblings, spending his early youth in Yellow Creek, Colorado prior to the family moving to Fruita, Colorado. Cars and bowling were a life time passion of Neil's. In his early adult life he spent time building and racing cars. This passion found Neil trading customized cars with Buddy Werner of Steamboat Springs, racing in the local Land's End Hill Climb, attending car shows across Western Colorado, and running cars at Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. Most recently, Neil spent time refurbishing a 1948 Lincoln. Neil was a member of several local organizations. He was a long time member of the Grand Junction Bowling Association and served as president of that organization. He was the recipient of the association's John Lindsay Memorial Hall of Fame Award in 1996 and was awarded the Grand Junction Bowling Association Lifetime Membership Award. He remained active in bowling. He was a member of the Western Colorado Contractors Association and served on the board of that organization. Neil was also a 25 year member of the Grand Junction Moose Lodge #270. Neil opened Bratton Window in 1960 at 513 Ute Avenue. In 1977 the business relocated to 1921 Main Street. In 1994 Neil retired and sold Bratton Window. Following retirement, Neil and Mary Lou spent seven years between their Grand Junction and Henderson, Nevada homes. The winters were spent in Henderson as "Snow Birds" enjoying the Las Vegas area and bowling. In recent years, Neil and Mary Lou remained in Grand Junction full time to spend more time with friends and family. Neil is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Mary Lou and his lifelong friend, Gene Lent and his wife, Shirley. He is also survived by daughters, Polly (Tom) Parrish of Grand Junction; Debra (Don) Lewis of Aurora and Shari Brown of Grand Junction. His grandchildren include Amanda (Wittwer) Kohlhoff, Justin Wittwer, Isaac Brown, Taunya (Brown) Taylor, Christian Parrish, Courtney (Parrish) Williams, and Granuaile Parrish and nine great grandchildren. Neil was preceded in death by his parents, James Joseph and Myrtle Bratton and sister, Lucille (Bratton) Rowe. Services will be held at Martin Mortuary Friday, January 9, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. Food and fellowship will immediately follow at the Moose Lodge, 567 25 1/2 Road, Grand Junction, CO. The family would prefer any memorial contributions be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, P. O. Box 60307, Grand Junction, CO 81506.
