He was born December 11, 1922 in Chickalah, Yell County, Arkansas to the late Hugh Roscoe and Hettie Mable Heath Pennington. He attended Arkansas Tech and graduated from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and received his medical degree from the University of Arkansas Medical School in 1957. Read More	Obituary James O'Neal Pennington, M. D. age 79 of Ola died Monday, July 15, 2002 at Ola. He was born December 11, 1922 in Chickalah, Yell County, Arkansas to the late Hugh Roscoe and Hettie Mable Heath Pennington. He attended Arkansas Tech and graduated from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and received his medical degree from the University of Arkansas Medical School in 1957. In 1959 he began his practice in Ola and remained there for 43 years. He was past chief of staff and director for the Yell County Hospital, which is now Chambers Memorial Hospital, member of the AMA, Arkansas State Medical Board, past president and current member of the Yell County Medical Society and the Yell County Cancer Society. He was a WWII Army Veteran, member of the American Legion and VFW Post 8712 in Plainview. He served as Mayor of Ola for 12 years, president of the Ola Chamber of Commerce for 15 years, was a charter member of the Republican National Committee, Charter Commissioner and officer of the housing authority of Ola, a member of the Ola Church of Christ and an active supporter of the Ola Mustangs. He was preceded in death by his son, Patrick Neal Pennington; a brother, Dale Pennington and a sister, Catha Lea Culwell. Survivors are a daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Michael Holt of Ola; two grandsons, Richard Wayne Holt and Jessie Lynn James Holt both of Ola; an uncle, Lloyd Pennington of Ola; sister-in-law, Nora Pennington of Omega Community and several nephews and nieces. Services were Thursday, July 18, 2002, at the Ola Church of Christ with Brother Bob Fallen and Brother Walter Golding officiating. Interment was in Mt. George Cemetery. Pallbearers were Frank Pennington, Dr. Jerry Potts, Howard Culwell, Leonard Keeling, Jr. John David Keeling, Allen McMillan. Honorary were Dr. Andy Henry, Dr. Phillip Tippin, Lloyd Reid George, Hartsell Lewis, Warren Birkhead, Mike Cornwell, Board & Staff of Chambers Memorial Hospital. Memorials may be made to the Ola Church of Christ, P. O. Box 97, Ola, Arkansas, 72853. Arrangements by Cornwell Funeral Home, Dardanelle.
