He and his father were Confederate volunteers and were placed in the fifty-first Georgia company which was stationed at Pocatilla near Fort Royal, Va. On Dec. 13 1862, Mr. Cooper's brigade fought at Fredrickburg, later in the month the young soldier was wounded in the leg with a 50 caliber shot. He was in the hospital for some time until his leg healed and he went on fulough. On his return to the ranks, he was wounded again in the Battle of Gettysburg.
