Read More	Oelwein Daily Register 8/9/1913 Jas Cronk Fatally Injured at Miehe's Fell from Second Story Porch Friday night and the spinal column was broken James Cronk of Arlington, fell from a second story porch at the August Miehe farm four and a half miles northeast of the city Friday night with the result that his back was broken and he cannot live. He fell a distance of twelve or fourteen feet on cement steps. Mr Cronk was employed by Mr Miehe in laying tile on the farm and retired to his room in the second story of the house at 8 o'clock Mr and Mrs Miehe retired an hour later. Mr Miehe thought she heard a noise a short time after but concluded that it was a door slamming or sounding of the sort. At 10:40 a cry was heard for help from outside the house and Mr and Mrs Miehe went out to find Mr Cronk lying with his head on the step and bleeding from wounds. He was unable to move and with the help of others he was carried into the house and placed on a couch. They at once summoned Dr Wassom who arrived befor 11 and found that the spinal column was broken and that there was no hope of recovery. It was concluded that he might be taken to his home at Arlington and he was conveyed there. Mr Cronk had no idea of how he cam to fall and it is thought that he may have been walking in his sleep and thus stepped off the porch. He has a wife and seven children. Daily Register 1/28/1914 James Cronk died Tuesday morning at his home here. Mr Cronk has been a great sufferer since in the summer when he fell from a porch and sustained a broken back. Daily Register 2/14/1914 pg 5 The funeral services of James P Cronk were held at the ME Church Wednesday, Jan 28 at 1 o'clock, conducted by Rev H H Barton. The deceased was born in Delaware county, Oct 16, 1865 and died at his residence in Arlington on Jan 27, 1914, aged 48 years 3 months 1 days. Mr Cronk has been a patient sufferer for the past six months as in August 1913, he received a fall which injured his back chich caused him to be an invalid ever since. He leaves to mourn his death besides his wife, seven children, Mrs James Gardner, Orville, Millard, Dean, Guy, Edith and Leroy, all at home also two grandchildren besides two brothers, Almond and Martin of Fayette and a sister Mrs D C Thompson of Cherokee and an aged mother, Mrs F Cronk of Fayette. Interment was in Taylorsville cemetery.
