Description	:	James P. (Pat) Leary, 84, died April 23, 2015, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Helena from injuries sustained while boating on Holter Lake as he continued to enjoy life to the fullest. Pat was born in Helena, Sept 17, 1930, the only child of Lee and Arlene Leary. In 1948, he graduated from Helena High School and participated in the first East-West Shrine football game. Pat was born in Helena, Sept 17, 1930, the only child of Lee and Arlene Leary. In 1948, he graduated from Helena High School and participated in the first East-West Shrine football game. Sept 1948, Pat was united in marriage to his grade-school sweetheart, Ellen Lutey. They were blessed with five wonderful children: Kevin, Linda, Patrick, Jan and Jill. Pat held numerous jobs growing up, including selling newspapers, bakery and farm work, and working on the railroad. He started working for Montana Power in 1948 as a ditch digger. He apprenticed as a gas serviceman and advanced through several positions. His 40 years of service took him from Helena to Lewistown, Great Falls, Butte and Billings. He retired in 1988 as marketing supervisor. After retirement, Pat continued to do contract and easement procurement for ECI/SSR Engineering. He loved a challenge and worked many projects until 2004. Throughout his life, Pat enjoyed the many family activities that included his immediate family as well as his Lutey sisters- and brothers-in-law. He was preceded in death by his wife Ellen in 2006. Pat’s surviving family includes: Kevin Leary and Sandy, Linda and Tim O’Hare, Patrick and Marion Leary, Jill and Mark Haigh, Jan and Matt Tedesco, and his grandchildren, Carrie and Scott Foster; Paul and Riley Leary; Ryan and BJ O’Hare; Shannon and Dustin Barber; Tyler and RoseAnna Leary; Dan Leary; Dalainy, Dawson and Dexter Tedesco; and Olivia Haigh. He also has nine great-grandchildren: Chase and Mason Foster, Tyler Rose and Cameron Leary, Logan and Liam O’Hare, Bella and Ava Leary, and Ryan Barber. He will be greatly missed by special friends Nick Jacques and Don Pratt. Viewing will be held Monday, April 27, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Retz Funeral Home. Also at Retz, a celebration-of-life memorial service is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Thursday, April 30, with a reception to follow at Fox Ridge Golf Course, 4050 Lake Helena Drive, Helena, MT 59602.
