MARSH DIES AT HIS HOME IN MONROE Sub-heading: Sudden Attack of Apoplexy Ends Life of Service to Others – Funeral at Presbyterian Church – Burial at Marshville Jas. P. Marsh died at his home in Monroe Sunday morning…suffering a stroke of apoplexy Saturday night… For the past few weeks Mr. Marsh’s health had been on the decline, probably occasioned by the strenuous work in which he had been engaged for a number of years… Jas. P. Marsh was a son of the late J. W. Marsh and of Mrs. Irene Pearsall Marsh. He was born in Marshville on the 14th day of October, 1892, and was therefore 43 years of age. He spent his boyhood and young manhood days in Marshville, moving his family to Monroe in 1928. He received his high school education at Marshville and graduated from Davidson college in 1914, receiving his M. A. degree in 1915. For a few years he taught in the Blue Ridge School for Boys, near Hendersonville. In 1917 he was married to Miss Myrtle K. Hamilton of Unionville and engaged in the mercantile business at Marshville for several years, after which he moved to Monroe and established an insurance agency. He served as a member of the County Board of Education until his election as County Welfare Officer in 1929. About a year ago he was made District Supervisor of Rural Rehabilitation and a few months ago was transferred to Mecklenburg and Union counties as District Supervisor of Farm Re-Settlement with headquarters in Charlotte. James P. Marsh was a big-hearted, kindly disposed Christian gentleman who gave more thought and attention to the welfare of others than to his own personal gain. He was a friend to everybody and this friendship was given in return. His disposition was to give more than he received and he will long be remembered as a true friend to suffering humanity. Withal, he was a most kind and devoted husband and father, willing to give not only his love, but his money, his time, his all, for the comforts of his loved ones. Deceased was an active member of the Presbyterian church, a leader in whom everybody had the utmost confidence and at the time of his death he was a member of the board of deacons and was church treasurer. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Myrtle Hamilton Marsh; three children, Edith, James and Spinks; his mother, Mrs. Irene Pearsall Marsh of Marshville and by one sister, Mrs. J. C. Little of Raleigh.
