Roberts 1878-1878 Obituray: James Perry Roberts 1831-1908 James Perry Roberts, son of James and Mary Battlemow Roberts, was born in mortal life near Taylorsville, O., Sept. 20, 1831, and passed into immortality at his home near Mowrystown on Tuesday evening, Dec. 29, 1908, aged 77 years 3 months and 9 days. He belonged to a family of fourteen children, all of whom have passed away except one sister, Mrs. Mary Ann Crampton, who resides at Lynchburg,0.,and one invalid brother, Edward Clinton Roberts, who has been under the special care and protection of the deceased for many years - perhaps thirty - and who now at his death will be left to the care of other near relatives. James Perry Roberts was married by the Rev Emile Grand-Girard Feb.22, 1859 to Miss Mariah Kibler, with whom he had lived in joyous wedlock for a period of almost fifty years. To this union were born eleven children, five sons and six daughters, all still living except one son, Isaac K Roberts, who preceded him to the better land, dying in infancy in 1878. The ten living children are as follows: Charles F. Roberts, Mrs. Ollie E. Winkle, Mrs. Ida J. Sauner, Mrs. Ella C. Fenwick, Herbert K. Roberts, Arthur W. Roberts, William P. Roberts, Viola O. Roberts, Mrs. Guessie L. Jones and Amelia M. Roberts, all residing in Highland county, O , except Mrs. Guessie L. Jones, who lives in Hamilton, O. He was the grandfather of thirty-seven children, twenty-seven of whom are still living and ten have passed to the great beyond. Also he had one great grand-child, Milliard Winkle, thus making his lineal descendants number forty-nine. James Perry Roberts united with the Presbyterian Church at Mowrystown, May 6, 1860, and he has been connected with it ever since, a period of more than forty eight years. He was ordained a ruling elder April 19, 1888, soon after the church reorganization, and has served it faithfully ever since. At the time of his death he was the senior elder, always interested in its welfare, regular in attendance, wise in counsel and ready for service. Mr. Roberts was a man widely known throughout the whole region, for here he had spent his life. He was a man of religious and social nature, of strict integrity, universally loved and respected, a devout, industrious and successful man in his business, and he had accumulated considerable property. He will be sadly missed in the home where his presence was the joy of the household and his wife, children and grand-children were the delight of his heart. He will be greatly missed in the church and his place will be hard to fill, He often spoke to his pastor and others of his expected departure soon for the better land. And when about his work would sing his favorite hymn, "Jesus Lover of My Soul, Let me to Thy Bosom Fly." And repeat to himself that passage of scripture, "I shall be satisfied when I awake with thy likeness." He has heard the Master's call, "Come Home I" He has entered into the "palace of the king," and there with unspeakable delight he now joins in the worship of the General Assembly and church of the first born in heaven, where he shall await the loved, but now sorrowing ones of earth.
