Heart disease caused him to fall in the snow and the exposure of the storm made the attack fatal. Mr. Blackett was born in New York City in 1837 and moved with his father to Clermont, Iowa, where they were engaged for a number of years in the mercantile business and as grain merchants in northeastern Iowa. He was also prominent in the Masonic lodge at this place. In 1881 he took up his residence in Cedar Rapids, where he was for years associated with the railroads. He and his family will be remembered as members of the Episcopal church of that city. he is survived by a widow and six children, most of whom are now residing in Chicago. The remains were brought to Clermont yesterday for burial. The remains were accompanied by his daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Hunter and husband and a nephew, Mr. Halstead.
