Description	:	James Porter "JP" Jayroe, 84, died Thursday, July 14, 2016, at Colleton County Medical Center. He had been a resident of Veterans Victory House, Walterboro, SC, since September 2013. Mr. Jayroe was born July 3, 1932, one of eight children of Constance Finklea Jayroe and James Marvin Jayroe, in Georgetown County on the eastern part of Walker Road, "Friendship section". Read More	James Porter "JP" Jayroe, 84, died Thursday, July 14, 2016, at Colleton County Medical Center. He had been a resident of Veterans Victory House, Walterboro, SC, since September 2013. Mr. Jayroe was born July 3, 1932, one of eight children of Constance Finklea Jayroe and James Marvin Jayroe, in Georgetown County on the eastern part of Walker Road, "Friendship section". He attended the old Oak Grove Elementary School and Andrews High School. He served in the United States Army in the Korean War and received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He used his GI benefits to obtain a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Management and a Minor in Math from Clemson University in 1960. He was a former employee of Charleston Naval Shipyard and was an 18-year employee of International Paper Company where he was the Laboratory Manager in the Container Division. He chose a second career and became the Executive Directory of the Georgetown County Council on Aging where he served for over 20 years. He was a member of Sampit United Methodist Church and Herbert United Methodist Church. He was an avid Clemson Tiger fan and loved watching all football games. He loved all music, especially old hymns and John Denver. He was known as a math whiz. He had a quick wit and enjoyed talking politics with anyone. While at Veterans Victory House, he made the daily announcements and participated in all activities. He was survived by a sister, Joyce J. (Donald) Gunter; numerous nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews, whom he dearly loved; and many cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; four sisters, Lila J. Bath, Thelma J. McGee, Mable J. Epps, and Claire J. Brown-Thomas; and two brothers, Russell A. Jayroe and Oneil M. Jayroe. The Jayroe family would like to extend a special "Thank You" to the Myrtle Beach Estates Assisted Living Facility and the Veterans Victory House Nursing Home for their compassion and excellent care. A Christian Service was Saturday, July 16, 2016, in Sampit United Methodist Church, 1077 Saints Delight Road, Georgetown, SC. The Rev. Daniel Marion Cooper, Chaplain for Veterans Victory House, officiated. The Georgetown Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
