Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 1, at St. Philomena Catholic Church, Selfridge, with the Rev. William Cosgrove as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Philomena Cemetery, Selfridge. Jim was born April 11, 1954, in Bismarck to Joseph and Angelina (Waliser) Hoon. He enlisted in the Army on Feb. 15, 1974, and was honorably discharged in February 1976. He later re-enlisted for four more years. Jim married Debra Polansky on March 27, 1978, in Mandan, and they have loved each other through it all. He always worked in construction and they moved throughout the western U.S. for years, finally settling in Wyoming. A very avid sportsman, he loved hunting and fishing with a passion. The mountains, cutting wood and setting up "Hoon Elk Camp" brought Jim extreme pleasure. He was a jack of all trades and always made time to help someone. If you were broke down on the side of the road, needed something fixed, or simply needed a new TV antenna, Jim was there. The master planner of everything, he'd bring the whole family together for camping and holidays, especially Christmas and the competition of lights. Jim loved having kids around and nothing was more special to him than his family. His wife, kids and grandchildren were his pride and joy. They will forever remember him and carry his love with them always. Left with many fond memories is his wife of 31 years, Debra, Gillette; four sons, Eric (Bobbie), James Jr., and Timothy, all of Gillette; and Kenneth, Milan, Mich.; three daughters, Juli (Dean) Urban, Belfield, and Christina (Randy) Washer and Dedra Hoon, both of Gillette; six grandchildren, Alec and Ethan Hoon, Taylor and Dean Jr. Urban and Maddisin and Maisey Washer; his mother and father-in-law, Joseph and Janice Polansky, Mandan; six brothers, Richard (Romelle), Gillette, Kenneth (Lynn), Mandan, Daniel (Charity Jameson), McLaughlin, S.D., Andy (Sabrina), Buffalo, Wyo., Mike, Mandan, and Matthew (Mary Beth), Buffalo; four sisters, Julie (Matthew) Wuitschick, Gillette, Nyla Hoon (Todd Schimke), Bismarck, Lucille (Graylen) Mittleider, McLaughlin, and Margie (James) Loeb, Mandan; and numerous nieces and nephews that were all very close to him. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Fredrick, Joseph III and William; his sisters, Rosemary and Carolee; his niece, Tina Marie; and his nephews, Skyler, Jacob and Anthony.
