Description	:	James R. and Hester Lancaster Lynn came to Grundy County, Iowa, from Pennsylvania in a covered wagon in 1857. The trip took nearly all summer. They bought and settled on the farm which remained theirs for two generations. Because there were no towns in Grundy County, the first post office was established on the Lynn farm. The office had to be given a name and the name selected was "Alice", for their daughter who was born two years after the parents came to the area. Read More	James R. and Hester Lancaster Lynn came to Grundy County, Iowa, from Pennsylvania in a covered wagon in 1857. The trip took nearly all summer. They bought and settled on the farm which remained theirs for two generations. Because there were no towns in Grundy County, the first post office was established on the Lynn farm. The office had to be given a name and the name selected was "Alice", for their daughter who was born two years after the parents came to the area. When an office was established at Conrad in 1880, Alice post office was discontinued. The oldest church in the county was organized in 1866 and was named Alice Church of God, also for their daughter. (From findagrave member #47730715) Died. One of Grundy county's most worthy and esteemed citizens, Mr. J. R. Lynn, died yesterday morning at his home near Alice, and was buried today. Mr. Lynn has been a constant sufferer for over ten years, not being able to lie down. What rest he got was in a sitting posture. Grundy has lost a good citizen, and the family a loving husband and father.
