Rev. Albert Best, pastor of the church, officiated. Mrs. Pauline Eddy was at the organ and accompanied Jerry Britten as he sang three favorite hymns of the deceased, "Beneath the Cross of Jesus", "In the Garden", and "Just a Closer Walk with Thee." Flowers were cared for by Mrs. Ruth Britten and Mrs. Leona Henderson. Pall bearers were Harold Britten, Alan Britten, Paul Lundy, Gordon Lundy, Myron Gildersleeve, and Roy A. Johnson. Burial was in the Nevada Cemetery. Brouhard Funeral Home of Zearing was in charge of arrangements. James Ralph Dillin was born in Richland Township, Story County, Iowa on April 29, 1891 to Elwyn Otho and Mae Loomis Dillin. At the age of 6, his parents moved to McCallsburg where he attended school. He later graduated from Capital City Commercial College in Des Moines. He was married to Martha Bryant at the age of 21. To this union five children were born four of whom survive. In 1930, he married Evelynn Wright and there are two surviving children of this marriage. Dillin farmed as a young man north and east of McCallsburg. Later when his father moved the Dillin Department Store to Nevada, he conducted the hardware and appliance part of the business for his father. In 1951, he opened his own hardware store in Nevada. In 1956, because of ill health and other interests he sold his business to Roy A. Johnson. With his wife, he moved to the farm near Zearing, where he resided at the time of his death. Survivors are his wife, Evelynn; two sons, James Elwyn of Melbourne, Fla.; and James Otho of Longview, Washington; four daughters, Winifred Stahlman of Falcon, Mo.; Martha Birchmeier of Edmonds, Okla.; Bernice Upchurch of Seattle, Wash. and Jacqueline Staulke, of Clear Lake; thirteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents and two children.
