He had been employed in recent years in a body factory in Detroit, Mich., his work, much of it, being at an emery wheel. His eyes became affected, and a month or more ago he came to the home of his sister, Mrs. Lanty McNeil in Pocahontas. Something like ten days ago, after intense suffering, he became entirely blind and remains in that sad condition. Until he shall have consulted specialists, as he will do at once, the deepest concern is felt for him by his many friends here. He is a son of the late Osborn Wilson and was born and reared in Monterey. Highland Recorder August 11, 1944 Mr. Ray Wilson, who has been making his home with his brother-in-law, Mr. Lanty McNeil and his sister, the late Mrs. Nora McNeil at Millpoint, W. Va., spent the past week end with Monterey friends and relatives. The last time he visited here was the unveiling of the monument on the courthouse lawn. Some 35 years or more ago, Ray met with misfortune while working in Western Electric Company plant in Pittsburgh, Pa., which left him practically blind ever since. Ray will be remembered by many of our older citizens of the county, being a son of the late Osbourn Wilson, Monterey. He expects to go to see his sister, Mrs. Sallie Lacy at Mt. Clinton, Va. while on this trip. Highland Recorder December 22, 1944 Mr. Ray Wilson, native Highlander who has been spending sometime at Mt. Clinton, had the misfortune to be struck by an automobile on November 8th. He suffered a broken leg, and was a patient at Rockingham Memorial Hospital until last Friday, when he was returned to the home of his sister, Mrs. C. R. Lacy. Another sister, Miss Lucy Wilson of Staunton plans to spend Christmas in the Lacy home. January 2, 1953 A funeral service was held for James Ray Wilson at the Monterey Presbyterian Church Tuesday at 2:30 with the Rev H. G. Allen and the Rev. A. E. Johnson officiating. Interment was in the Monterey cemetery. Mr. Wilson died at the home of his sister, Mrs. C. R. Lacy at Mt. Clinton on Sunday. He was born in Monterey Feb. 24, 1880. A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Osborne Wilson. He leaves two sisters, Mrs. Lacy and Miss Mary L. Wilson of Staunton.
