Cherokee Sentinel, April 12, 1912, page 4: James Rennie Dead Another old soldier is dead. James Rennie died at his home on West Magnolia street Tuesday morning, April 9th, after a long sickness. He passed away peacefully after almost three months of suffering. John Rennie was born at Kilmannock, Scotland, December 29, 1842. At the age of ten years he removed with his parents to this country, locating in southern Illinois. In 1861 he enlisted in the service of his country and served three years. Was married April 24, 1878, to Elizabeth Beall, who survives him. When a young man he made a profession of his faith and united with the Reformed Presbyterian church. Later he was a member of the United Presbyterian church of Beulah, and still later on removing to Cherokee united with the Presbyterian church of this city, of which he was a consistent member up to the time of his death. He is survived by a wife and two daughters, Mrs. J.W. Kirkwood and Miss Etha of this city, and two brothers and a sister. Funeral services were conducted at the Presbyterian church by Rev. Lawellin of the M.E. church assisted by Rev. Thompson of the U.P. church of Pittsburg, on Wednesday afternoon, and interment was made in the Cherokee cemetery. Mr. Rennie was a good citizen. He had lived for years at Beulah and Cherokee, and could always be counted on the side of righteousness. A good man is gone. Contributed by Cheryl White
