Services: 11 a.m., Friday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Hiawatha, by the Rev. Mark Ressler. Burial: St. Patrick Cemetery, Fairfax. Jim is survived by his wife, Karol; seven children, Kathy (Duane) Ducat of Kewaunee, WI, Jim (Karen) Koch and Michael Koch (Lynda Hartig) both of Cedar Rapids, Mark (Yvonne) Koch of Iowa City, Holly (Jason) Reed and Paul (Robin) Koch both of Fairfax and Mitzi (Chase) Fields, of Charlotte, NC; twenty-one grandchildren and one due in April; two sisters, Patsy (Mike) Chekel and Jean Fowler; and brothers and sisters in-law Mary Jane Reichenauer, Sr. Margaret Ann Recker, Helen Hawker, Charles and Ann Recker, Velma and John Krapfl, and Donald and Joan Recker. Jim is preceded in death by his parents. Jim was born on July 1, 1942 in Cedar Rapids the son of Melbourne James and Mary McNulty Koch. He was a 1960 graduate of Prairie High School. Jim married Karol Recker on November 14, 1964 at the Basilica of St. Francis Xavier in Dyersville. He served in the Army National Guard and on the Marion Police Department. Jim worked primarily as a home builder and owner of Koch Home Builder. Later he worked as a security officer, retiring in 2004. Jim loved spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. He was an avid Hawkeye football and basketball fan, enjoyed watching movies, history, museums, and feeding the birds. Jim loved to travel and cherished his trip to Rome to see The Vatican. Memorials may be directed to the family. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
