Description	:	James “Jim” Robert DeLong, age 74 of Davis City, Iowa passed away on October 6, 2019, after his fourth bout with cancer. He was the son of Garland Robert and Emma Mae (Davis) DeLong, born at home on August 19, 1945, in Clay Township, Harrison County, Missouri. Growing up was life on a farm. From learning to drive a tractor at a very young age, to milking cows, picking up hay, tending pigs, and all that is included in farm life. Read More	James “Jim” Robert DeLong, age 74 of Davis City, Iowa passed away on October 6, 2019, after his fourth bout with cancer. He was the son of Garland Robert and Emma Mae (Davis) DeLong, born at home on August 19, 1945, in Clay Township, Harrison County, Missouri. Growing up was life on a farm. From learning to drive a tractor at a very young age, to milking cows, picking up hay, tending pigs, and all that is included in farm life. In his free time he liked to spend time with cousins, Glenn and Maurice Barth. James was married briefly which resulted in daughter, Jeanie Mae. Grandmother, Emma DeLong, and James raised Jeanie until Jim met and then married Pamela Kay Akers on October 25, 1969. That union resulted in three additional children, Robert William, Angela Dawn, and Amber Lynn. James was always busy, either, working, attending children and later grandchildren activities or volunteering and helping in his community. He was instrumental in expanding Davis City Fire Department & EMS and even served as Mayor. James retired from Industrial Hardfacing as a lead machinist. After retirement he started a small repair business. James had a passion for John Deere lawn mowers, his grandchildren nicknamed him “Lawnmower Papa.” He had a gift of gab and never met a stranger. Preceding him in death were his grandparents and parents; beloved wife, Pam DeLong, in April of this year; sister and brother-in-law, Janice and Farrell Knorr; brother, Keith DeLong; brother-in-law, Scotty Briggs; parents-in-law, Hilda and Harold Akers; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harold Dene and Kathy Akers. Survivors include his children, Jeanie and Neal Inglis of Mount Gambier, South Australia, Robert DeLong of Kansas City, Missouri, Angie and Rob Friedman of Mooresville, North Carolina, and Amber and Clint Vicker of Creston, Iowa; grandchildren, Doug Cook, Cheri Cook and friend Justin Hopkins, Dillon and Ski-Laine DeLong, Austin DeLong, Quintin Friedman, Emma Friedman, Arabelle Friedman, Cailynn Friedman, Cade Vicker and friend Abby Raney, and Corbyn Vicker; great grandchildren, Axeton DeLong and Mya Hopkins; sister, Mary Briggs of Stanberry, Missouri; brother and sister-in-law, Willard and Mary DeLong of Osceola, Iowa; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Jan DeLong of Minnesota, Penny Akers, and Debra and Gene Cooper, all of Leon, Iowa; many nieces and nephews; a special person in the family’s lives, Sandy Marcus; and other relatives and friends.
