Here is his excerpted testimony from the longer document: Southern Campaign American Revolution Pension Statements & Rosters Pension application of James Russell (Russel) R9097 Ann f55VA State of Virginia Loudon [Loudoun] County to wit On 1st this day of June 1854 Personally appeared before me John Price a Justice of the Peace in and for the County of Loudon and State of Virginia Ann Russell, who was Ann Heath as described in a certificate of marriage license hereto annexed aged 73 years who being first duly sworn according to law doth on her oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefits of the provisions made by the act of Congress passed on the 3rd of February 1853granting Pensions to widows of Persons who served during the Revolutionary War that she is the widow of James Russell deceased who was a Sergeant in the Continental line of the Revolutionary Army that marched from the City of Richmond Virginia as well appear by the documents herewith annexed. She further declares that she was married to the said James Russell on the 27th day of June 1803 The State of Ohio Champaign County SS Before me James Russell a Justice of the peace in and for the County and State aforesaid, personally appeared James Russell, son of said James Russell, aged sixty years of the County aforesaid, who being duly sworn according to law, deposeth and saith, that he was present at the marriage of James Russell, late of Loudoun County Virginia, deceased, and Ann Heath, who now resides in said Loudoun County Virginia, who was his second wife; which marriage was solemnized about the month of June AD 1803; that the said James Russell and Ann his wife, lived together as husband and wife, and were reputed as such up to the time of the death of said James Russell, some twenty-five years ago, and the said James Russell has heard his father James Russell say, that he served in the revolutionary war, about and South of Richmond Virginia and had to retreat for several days and nights together before the Army of Cornwallis, that he was in or about Richmond at the time the British took possession of Manchester, at which time, they had a considerable cannonading, names of officers not recollected except the Ensign whose name was Josiah White, and some of the privates names were John Quick, John Clice and John Myers, and that the Marquis Lafayette was a general officer of that Army.
