Description	:	James (Jim) S. Janssen left the world peacefully on Saturday, August 3, 2019 surrounded by his family at the St. Vincent Hospital in Billings, MT. Jim was born June 5, 1930 in Coalwood the son of Samuel and Opal (Wright) Janssen. He had two older siblings Mary and Marlyn and a younger brother Glen. Jim graduated from Custer County High School. He often stayed with relatives in Miles City and on the homestead ranch as the family had lost both parents early in life. Janssen left the world peacefully on Saturday, August 3, 2019 surrounded by his family at the St. Vincent Hospital in Billings, MT. Jim was born June 5, 1930 in Coalwood the son of Samuel and Opal (Wright) Janssen. He had two older siblings Mary and Marlyn and a younger brother Glen. Jim graduated from Custer County High School. He often stayed with relatives in Miles City and on the homestead ranch as the family had lost both parents early in life. After graduation, Jim joined the Army and was proud of his time spent training as a Paratrooper with the 171st Unit which was one of the first Green Beret units. Jim came back home to Miles City after the military and began his painting career working for Jack Hardesty with Crafted Homes. Eventually this led to the start of Jim’s own painting business, Janssen Painting. He married Barbara Thompson and had two daughters Debra “Debbie” Patch and Jamie Janssen (Carlson). He was proud of the purchase of land he made on Sunday Creek often calling it “the country” and raising crops, cattle and an occasional pig or two. He spent many hours in the country and loved the gardens he grew. Jim was often referred to as a “character” and many have said if you had a penny for every story Jim told, we would all be rich! Jim is survived by his wife of 64 years Barb, his two daughters: Debbie (Duane “Spud”) Patch and their son Brady (Alayna), Jamie Carlson and her children: Tristan, Ashley and Brandy; his brother Marlyn (Alice) Janssen. Jim was predeceased by his parents Samuel and Opal, a brother Glen, a sister Mary and grandson Brandon Janssen Visitation will be held Friday, August 9, 2019 from 9:00a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Graveside services with Military Honors will follow at the Custer County Cemetery at 12:30 pm. A gathering will be held following the burial at Parker’s Bar.
