Description	:	Mr. Leaman was living in Cedar Falls, IA at the time of the death of son Ike. Do not know order of birth of children. At the time of Cordelia's death they had 4 daugnters and 4 sons. In 1875 they occuppied a farm on the southern 4th of Sec. 5 of Douglas Twp, Bremer Co, IA...SE 4th of the SW qtr of the section. A C.W. Leaman and a Chas. W. Read More	Mr. Leaman was living in Cedar Falls, IA at the time of the death of son Ike. Do not know order of birth of children. At the time of Cordelia's death they had 4 daugnters and 4 sons. In 1875 they occuppied a farm on the southern 4th of Sec. 5 of Douglas Twp, Bremer Co, IA...SE 4th of the SW qtr of the section. A C.W. Leaman and a Chas. W. Leaman are shown to own the next two adjacent farms east, most of the SE qtr of Sec 5. They had 10 children, 2 of whom had died by 1883, leaving 4 boys & 4 girls. James lived in Boone Co, IL til age 19 when he, with his parents, moved to Douglas Twp, Bremer Co, IA. James is the oldest boy and 2nd oldest child of his parents. Moved to Bremer Co in Spring, 1859. His 1883 farm included 160 acres of prairie plus 10 acres of timber. Cordelia moved from NY to IL at age 10 then to IA in 1856. The Leaman farm in Douglas Twp, Bremer Co was originally granted by President Franklin Pierce to a Robert Turner, a private in Captain Cove's Co. of the Ohio Militia, for fighting in the War of 1812. Jame's great grand daughter Donna Henry has the President Pierce document in her possession in 1985. It is dated June 10, 1856. Have seen their marriage date as 19AG1858, but Bremer Co marriage records show the date as 26 Aug 1858. They are buried in Greenwood Cemetery. Have also seen records which say she was born in Willsboro, Essex Co, NY on 2 Aug 1838. There is this item in the March 4, 1886 issue of The Waverly Republican, Waverly, Iowa: "J. S. Leaman is temporarily laid up with a sprained or broken shoulder by being thrown from a sled." And there is this item in the same newspaper, the March 18, 1886 issue: "At the Leaman district school election last Monday evening the candidates represented (sic) the question to move or not to move the school house. Not to move carried twenty-six to eight." James died Saturday morning (his wife had also died on a Saturday morning) in the home of his daughter, Mira (or Myra) Wood. Buried at Greenwood Cemetery, Nashau, Iowa.
