Mr. Delancy was one of Boone county's pioneers, having lived near here for the past twenty years. He was a man of sterling qualities and to know him was to respect him. Six children survive him, his wife and three sons having gone on before. All his children were at his bedside except Mrs. W. H. Smith, who is just recovering from a severe sickness and was not able to be out. Rev. Trazona conducted the funeral services and the remains were laid to rest in Cedar Rapids cemetery. Another obit adds this information, again thanks to Linda Berney for the transcription: James Delancy died last Saturday morning at the home of his son-in-law, B. F. Smith, in Belgrade. Mr. Delancy was born in Ohio nearly 80 years ago, where he grew to manhood and married. Soon after his marriage, he moved into eastern Iowa where he lived for about 40 years. Some 20 years ago his wife died, about 16 years ago he came to Nebraska and purchased 320 acres of Cedar valley land four miles north of Belgrade, which he owned at the time of his death. The funeral services were held at the M. E. church, conducted by Rev. Trezona. The services were very impressive, the sermon was preached from the text, "To whom shall we go?" and the singing by the quartet was good. The church was filled to the doors, a large part of the body of the church was filled with relatives, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The remains were laid to rest in the east cemetery at Cedar Rapids. Uncle James was sick only a few days and suffered but little. Death was simply the rounding out of a long life well spent. While we miss him, we can but say, "It is enough, well done, come up higher." ~~~~~ Robt. Rundall of Boyd county, one of the old settlers of Nance county, is here attending the funeral of his father-in-law, Mr. Delancy. ~~~~~ John and Amos Delancy of Iowa and Robt Delancy of Greeley came last week to attend their father during his last illness.
