Description	:	James "Jimmy" Flurie was the son of Abraham and Sarah Flurie of Williamsport. Jimmy was the proud owner of a very old violin which he played for radio programs. He also liked sports and played soccer and baseball for Williamsport High School. He was athletic and always excelled at the annual track and field meet. Read More	James "Jimmy" Flurie was the son of Abraham and Sarah Flurie of Williamsport. Jimmy was the proud owner of a very old violin which he played for radio programs. He also liked sports and played soccer and baseball for Williamsport High School. He was athletic and always excelled at the annual track and field meet. Jimmy was a member of the Latin and English clubs at the school and had been president of the Hi-Y club in 1934. Jimmy Flurie played prominent parts in school plays and had been cast in the leading role of Laurie in Little Women which was to have been the senior class play on May 24, 1935. Jimmy was a boy scout and had earned the honor of First Class Scout. The February 26, 1931 issue of The Morning Herald told of 3 tenderfoot scouts receiving their first pins and cards at the last meeting of Troop 1 in Williamsport. These 3 boys were Jimmy Flurie, Paule McElroy and Lewis Garrish. The March 31, 1931 issue of The Morning Herald reported that the previous scout meeting was closed with the scout oath by James Flurie. Jimmy was one of fourteen Williamsport High School students who lost their lives when the school bus they were returning from a field trip in collided with an express train at Rockville, MD on the night of April 11, 1935. The Boy Scouts of Williamsport acted as pallbearers at Jimmy Flurie's funeral at The United Brethren Church on East Salisbury Street in Williamsport on April 17, 1935. Glenn Baker, buglar for the scouts, sounded Taps at Greenlawn Cemetery that day for Jimmy Flurie. After the tragedy, the inhabitants of Williamsport gathered donations to build a public library in memory of the students. It still stands and is used to this day.
