Since yesterday three deaths have occurred in the city of Madison and one at Ramona. People are beginning to be aware of the gravity of the situation and with sobered reflections are wondering who next will be laid low by the power of the dread invader. The shock following the reports of death after death in this city and vicinity is forcing the question, 'Can anything more be done then is now attempted to stop the spread of this epidemic?' Ministers, teachers and business men are realizing the importance of using every possible measure against further inroads of the disease. Public funerals have been proscribed and now possibly we face the alternatives of closing down our schools and curtailing business to a limited degree until such time as the situation becomes improved. James Cole. The report reached this city at an early hours this morning of the death at Ramona last night of James T. Cole, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Cole of Union Avenue N., of this city. In this case as in those recoded in paragraphs above, death was due to pneumonia. The deceased was engaged in the garage business, having just moved to Ramona from a farm last spring. He was 29 years of age and leaves a wife, formerly Margaret Midgaard of this city, and two children. The funeral will beheld fro the family home in RaMona Monday at 2 p.m. Burial in Graceland cemetery of this city. Cole, who died from an attack of pneumonia on Feb. 6, 1920 at the age of 29 years, 8 months and four days, was the son of Mr. andMrs. James H. Cole of Madison, S.D. He was born May 2, 1890, on a farm in Concord township, Lake county. His marriage to Margaret Midgaard occurred at Madison, Dec. 25, 1913. He is survived bu his parents and two children, Clayton, aged 3 years and 7 months, and Goldie, aged 6 years. There also survive two brothers, Floyd, near Ramona and Dean, at Sioux Falls. Mrs. Thor Westall, a sister, resides near Winfred. The funeral was held at the home in Ramona, S.D., Monday, Feb. 9, 1920, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Blakeslee of Grace Episcopal church, Madison, had charge of the services. The remains were laid to rest in Graceland cemetery near Madison. After his marriage he lived on the farm where he was born until about March 1, 1919, when he disposed of his interests there and went to Lincoln, Neb., where he spent some time attending an auto repair school. About July 1, 1919, he purchased the Sherman garage at Ramona, which he operated up till the time of his death. He was highly successful in business, honorable and upright in his dealings, a man of sterling character, of whom no one could speak ill and a man who would do anything for his family. His friends, of which he had a great many, speak of him as tenderly as a brother because of his genial nature and loyal full heartedness. All who have known him were greatly shocked at his death, which came very unexpectedly to one so young and strong and which is unusually sad because of the two motherless and fatherless children who are to be kept by their grandparents, where they will be well cared for, but no one can replace the mother and father who are gone.
