Description	:	James Tallent b. 1780 in Anson Co., N.C. His wife was Martha b. 1782 in Maryland. In 1810 James Tallent bought land in Lincoln Co., N.C. from Jessie Kuykendall and sold land there in 1813 to Daniel Shurford. In Nov. 1816 James Tallent sold 100 acres in Lincoln Co., N.C. to Knips. This was part of a land grant that Jessie Tallent got in 1801. (deed book 30, pg. 529) This land grant and the deed are the only records known to exist of this Jessie Tallent and what became of him is not known, but he was probably a... In 1810 James Tallent bought land in Lincoln Co., N.C. from Jessie Kuykendall and sold land there in 1813 to Daniel Shurford. In Nov. 1816 James Tallent sold 100 acres in Lincoln Co., N.C. to Knips. This was part of a land grant that Jessie Tallent got in 1801. (deed book 30, pg. 529) This land grant and the deed are the only records known to exist of this Jessie Tallent and what became of him is not known, but he was probably a brother of James. James again sold land in Dec. 1818 and the deed was signed "James Talent & Marthey Talent". This 100 acres was sold to John Byles. By 1819 the tax records shows James as insolvent. It is about this time that James & Martha moved to Blount Co., TN. and settled in the Middlesettlement Community, a few miles east of Louisville. In 1851 James Tallent deeded the last of his land in Blount Co., TN. and it is believed he died about this time, 1851-52. James & Martha were listed on the Blount County, TN. census 1830-50 and Martha was listed on the 1860 census with her son, Jesse. It is believed that James & Martha are buried in the Middlesettlement Cemetery with plain stones to mark their graves. Some researchers suggest Martha was the widow of Jessie Tallent that received the land grant in Lincoln Co., N.C. and James married her after his brother's death but there are no records to prove or disprove this other then James ending up with Jessie's land grant.
