Description	:	A lifetime resident of Valley, WA passed away Thursday, September 28, 2011. He was born March 6, 1917 in Valley, WA the son of Artie and Emma (Taylor) Dunlap. After graduating from High School Jim began working at a local dairy in 1939. In 1942 when he joined the United States Army Air Corps and flew as a bombardier during WWII. He was awarded for his service with an Air Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters and a European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with four Bronze Stars. He was born March 6, 1917 in Valley, WA the son of Artie and Emma (Taylor) Dunlap. After graduating from High School Jim began working at a local dairy in 1939. In 1942 when he joined the United States Army Air Corps and flew as a bombardier during WWII. He was awarded for his service with an Air Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters and a European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with four Bronze Stars. After returning home he began work at the Red Marble Quarry in 1945. Jim married Eloise Traaen in 1948. For several years, Jim logged and trapped before beginning a job as a substitute at the Valley Post Office. He worked for 25 years as a clerk, mail sorter, postmaster, and route carrier. He then went to work as an installer for McVay Brothers Siding and Windows, until his retirement. During those years he also spent some time driving school bus and doing janitorial work at the Valley School. Jim was a hard worker who also enjoyed fishing and traveling in his spare time. He had a great sense of humor and was an excellent storyteller. He always had a positive attitude and the ability to figure out how to overcome anything he faced in life. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. He is survived by his wife Eloise (Traaen) Dunlap; one son, John T. Dunlap and his wife, Ardith, Spokane WA; three daughters, Jeanie Walsh, Arizona, Elaine Smith and her husband, Mike, Prairie City, OR, LouAnn Wroe, Emnaha, OR; fifteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his mother and father and one sister, Edna Abraham. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m., Monday, October 3, 2011 at the Valley Bible Church in Valley, WA. A graveside service will follow at the Valley Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to N.E. WA. Home Health Services - Hospice, P.O. Box 808 Chewelah, WA. 99109.
