Description	:	James Theodore Nehl, son of John and Mary (Schilling) Nehl, was born on April 9, 1902 in Chickasaw County, Iowa. Catherine Barbara Kloewer, oldest daughter of Anton and Barbara (Gaul) Kloewer, was born on April 19, 1907 in Westphalia. James and Catherine were married on January 2, 1929 in St. Peter's Church in Defiance. They lived their entire married life on their farm until Jim's death on May 24, 1938. Catherine Barbara Kloewer, oldest daughter of Anton and Barbara (Gaul) Kloewer, was born on April 19, 1907 in Westphalia. James and Catherine were married on January 2, 1929 in St. Peter's Church in Defiance. They lived their entire married life on their farm until Jim's death on May 24, 1938. Four daughters were born to this union: Rita Block, Delores Dempsey, Alma Wilwerding and Jean Laux. An infant son died at birth in August of 1938. In the fall of 1938, Catherine and her daughters moved into Defiance. The girls all attended and graduated from St. Paul's High School. Mrs. Mary Nehl, Jim's mother, lived with the family from 1932 until 1958 when she retired to a nursing home in Nashua. She died on August 4, 1963, at the age of 95 years. During the intervening years, Mary and Catherine did a lot of sewing, knitting, crocheting and quilting, both for their own use as well as gifts for relatives and friends. Catherine died on June 6, 1963, after an extended illness. Both she and Jim are buried in St. Peter's Cemetery in Defiance. Rita and Alma now live in Earling and Delores and Jean live in Omaha, Nebraska.
