Read More	James Thurman (Jim) HILLMAN June 20, 2010, James Thurman Hillman died peacefully in his sleep at home; he was nearly 93 years young. Born July 25, 1917 in Prosser, WA to James Burl and Etta Jane Hillman, Jim spent his youth on his grandparents' 10 acre farm in the Yakima Valley. Jim graduated from Prosser High School in 1934 and headed for the big city lights of Seattle and the University of Washington. College years were interrupted by World War II; Jim served as an officer in the Army as a Tank Destroyer Unit Commander and earned a Bronze Star and 3 Battle Stars. He married Golda G. Cox in 1941 and together, they adopted two children, Robert and Lauren. He resumed his education at UW, graduated in 1948, passed his CPA exam, and began his first 30 year career in mortgage banking with Securities Mortgage Company and later as Executive Vice President of Firstbank Mortgage Corporation. Jim served on the Board of Governors of the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) and regularly contributed to and was recognized by national MBA publications. In 1973, he married the girl next door and his true love, Christine DiMartino; they had three children, Michael, Jennifer and Andrew. In this second half of his life, he took up skiing, sailing, hiking, and conquered Mt. St. Helen's before she blew. Ever the optimist, Jim began a second successful career of more than 30 years with his own company, providing financial management for apartment and condominium associations. Jim loved his home in Clyde Hill, one he planned and built in 1957 and continued to reside in for the next 53 years. He served as Councilman for City of Clyde Hill from 1990-2003; "his quest for a simplified financial system that all could understand is still a model among cities throughout the state." He listened to jazz and classical music, played the piano by ear, and thoroughly enjoyed the grand view of water, sky and city scapes from his picture window. He appreciated the simple life: a dry martini, good food in the company of family and friends and Tuesdays with Jack. He will be greatly missed by his family and all those who knew and loved him. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Robert Burl Hillman. Jim is survived by his wife and steadfast companion, Chris. He is also survived by his children: Robert (Karen) of Raleigh, NC, Lauren of Olympia, WA, Michael, Jenny Dire (Nate), and Andrew, 5 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter, numerous nephews, nieces and dear friends of all ages. A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, July 2, 2010, at 1:00 pm at Sacred Heart Church, 9460 NE 14th Street, Clyde Hill, WA 98004. In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Jim may be made to the Intercommunity Peace and Justice Center (IPJC) of Seattle, 1216 NE 65th Street, Seattle, WA 98115, Telephone: 206.223.1138.
